Experience 'Weekend in Provence' Brunch only at Mirèio, Raffles Makati

Ah, weekends. Such a perfect time of the week for us to wake up a bit late and have some brunch! For me, Saturday or Sunday is usually spelled N-O-W-O-R-K.

This view though.
And on weekends, Mirèio at Raffles Makati takes you high above the city and let you have that brasserie dining experience, including one that they call 'Weekend in Provence, A Family Affair' --- it is a semi-brunch buffet with all the cheese, bread and desserts you can get with an assortment of appetizers, your choice of egg dish and main course paired with the best cocktails and refreshing drinks. All these (except the drinks) are available for Php1,980++ per person.

I myself haven't been to Provence yet, and because I am no know-it-all, according to the 'not so trusted but trusted' source Wikipedia, it is a geographical region and historical province of southeastern France, which extends from the left bank of the lower Rhône River to the west to the Italian border to the east, and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

I wonder how weekends in the actual Provence would be like? *wishing I was there right now*
But moving on! let's go back to Mirèio and get to the food, shall we?

I arrived at Mirèio and was greeted by an assortment of Mahi-Mahi gravlax, coriander, lemon, olive oil and herbs with Homemade terrine, garlic and pickled shallots. Enjoy these with some pieces of toasted baguette with a drizzle of pesto sauce. I was so satisfied by this but was more excited on what's to come next!

Gravlax and Terrine
The Niçoise Salad with baby potato, green beans, boiled egg, black olive and onions was fresh and vibrant. The bitterness of the rocket paired with mild flavors are outstanding and is my favorite part on this salad.

Salad
Bread with fresh French butter is just comfort food for me and it sucks that there aren't a lot of bakeries in Manila that offers these kinds of breads, except for a few expensive ones. I guess

A simple plate of cheeses are displayed near our table, and you can even get more breads from this set-up. On the opposite side are some desserts that are made in-house by a young group of pastry chefs working in the restaurant's semi-open kitchen.

Mini quiche tarts with caramelized onions were also served to us as we wait for our choice of egg dish. As for me, I ordered the Egg benedictine while my companion ordered the Truffled scrambled eggs.

Simple yet indulgent: the Scrambled eggs, black truffle juice, chives topped with croutons is just perfect. I had to steal a spoonful from my companion just to experience the rich creamy texture of this dish. It's nice how even the simplest of ingredients, when cooked perfectly, becomes a masterpiece on its own!

I enjoyed this Egg benedictine, beef tongue, Béarnaise, iberico ham, herbs with all my might. The trick is to make sure that everything is in balance, slice a piece and take a bite. It was an explosion of flavors layers in my mouth: the smooth sauce, the rich yolk, the salty ham and the savory beef tongue is amazing.

And now it's time to select our main courses! We were actually a group when we visited Mirèio which means shared some of our food too! Plus, it's good so I can showcase the choices that you may want to try when you do visit Mirèio one of these weekends.

Options include the following: Clams Marinière, raz-el hanout, French fries

Roasted chicken, sweet potato purée, soy beans, meat jus, garlic

Slow cooked oxtail parmentier, black truffle jus

There's also Grilled tuna, piperade, chorizo, Kalamata olive and Mackarel filet "à la grecque", ratatouille, potatoes (no photos taken)

Another surprise that we had was the make-your-own Risotto set-up where servers can ask their guests if they would like to have a pesto or red sauce-based risotto. Drooling again as I write this!

A lot of my foodie friends enjoyed the red risotto, but I got stuck with this pesto variation. Love the buttery and refreshing flavor of this classic rice dish!

Drinks are always part of European lunch and dinners, so I chose the Rosé Spritz -- made with Rosé wine, grapefruit wedges, basil leaves, soda and tonic water.

Some of our friends had glasses of Rain or Shine, made with Bacardi Carta Blanca, carrot juice, guava juice, mint syrup and grapefruit bitters. All cocktails are Php395, and BUY ONE GET ONE too. Now that's a perfect deal!

Another surprise of Healthy Shots came to our table, made with freshly pressed juice and berry smoothie too!

And now, dessert time! Here are some that I tried during my visit:

Vanilla Raspberry Mille Crepe

Strawberry Blueberry Mille Feuille

Chocolate Roche

And Spanky's recommendation: Chocolate Tartlets paired with blue cheese!

The key is to scoop out the chocolate ganache and pair it with an equal amount of blue cheese. Weird at first, but when I tried it, it's not that bad at all! It's addicting, to be honest!

My brunch wouldn't be complete without an order of crepe, which is made to order. You can choose whatever toppings you want, but I just had mine with some sugar, lemon juice and lemon zest. Super simple yet super delish!
