'Thailand On My Plate' Cooking Class starts 3rd March at The Peninsula Academy - Manila

There's nothing more satisfying than to learn something new in the kitchen right? And with that, The Peninsula Manila has something in store for you this month of March.

Starting Friday, March 3, The Peninsula Academy in Manila plays as host as they offer 'Thailand On My Plate', a special cooking class that features some of the most loved dishes in Thailand. Classes will be held at Spices Restaurant and is led by the quirky, sometimes witty Chef Phaitoon Atthasarn, resident Thai Chef at Spices at The Peninsula and who has been working in the industry for many years now. If you are quite unsure of how to pronounce his name, you can simply call him Chef Alex.

But before official classes are just about to start later today, I already got to experience of how it is to become a student of the said class during a preview which happened a few weeks ago. It was a thrill to know how the dishes were made, let alone stand beside Chef Alex in the kitchen just to check if I can do exactly the same thing that he just did when he first did cooking demos for dishes like Som Tam Marako, Penang Curry and Mango Sticky Rice. It's a great deal to learn more about him, his passion in cooking, the cuisine he specializes in, and the dishes that reflects a diverse and strong culture. There is no wonder that Thai food is slowly becoming more and more popular in Manila!

Oh, and you must know that I made this version of the Penang Prawn Curry. This. Is. Delicious as fudge.

Surely, Chef Alex looks happy with my dish (or was he forced to smile at the camera? Who knows lol!) Another thing that's truly fun in this class was that Chef Alex was teaching us some cool Thai words and phrases while he teaches us how to make the dishes.

For only Php2,017 each, participants will receive The Peninsula Academy Apron plus a family-style dinner at Spices. Classes are scheduled at 3:00 to 5:00 PM later today so if you happen to read this before lunchtime, give them a call and hope that they still have slots left (they are only gonna accept 15 for today) --- but let's hope that they do this again at another date :)

Oh, and who said you can't drink while in cooking class? Make sure to enjoy these Thai-inspired drinks while you learn how to cook like a Thai chef! Know these drinks by heart and you're sure to come back for more at The Peninsula Manila.

My must-try cocktails include the Tom Khallins made with gin, lemon juice, coconut cream and spicy red chili.

And because I love anything spicy, the Makham Delight is a winner! It's made with tequila, some tamarind juice, chili flakes, brown sugar and black pepper. It's sweet, sour, spicy all in a glass!

I was having the Spices Gin & Tonic while having our dinner, and I couldn't be happier. This glasses are filled with gin, soda water, flavored ice cubes with spices like coriander, cloves, red peppercorns, star anise, lemon and cinnamon. It's the signature drink that is truly what Spices Restaurant at the Peninsula is known for.
