Going Vegetarian At Chaplin In Century City Mall Makati
It was a few Saturdays ago when I visited Chaplin, thanks to a friend who recommended me to visit. Prior to saying yes to her invite, I didn't really have an idea of what this restaurant has in store for its customers, but I instantly fell in love with the place the moment I arrived at this restaurant / cafe which stands tall at the fourth floor of Century City Mall in Poblacion, Makati.
Chaplin is located alongside other food establishments but it stands out with their cool, posh interiors which gives an almost beach-like feel while you are there. Something that also caught my attention (of course) is a sign that says that they offer Bottomless Mojitos (which come in Classic and Passion Fruit flavors) for only Php295. That's a deal that I would love to have any day of the week!
Speaking of which, I started sipping on these refreshing drinks such as this Classic Mojito (yes I had a cocktail for lunch hahaha) Chaplin Tea which helped quenched my thirst since it was a bit hot outside which made me feel a bit famished. I personally love the Chaplin Tea because it's made with fresh ingredients like mint, honey, orange, ginger and spiced just right with a cinnamon stick! You can use it to mix everything together and here's a tip: you can even use the cinnamon stick as a cute straw if you wish to add even more flavor with every sip!

Not long after eating, I ended my meal with a cup of Latte and a piece of biscotti. |

I never really knew the reason on naming the restaurant Chaplin (although you will recall the name from one of the most popular comedians in history), but food-wise, I tried some interesting dishes and take note - these are meat-free! The first thing I ate is Bourekas, a triangular baked pastry that's filled with boiled eggs, tomatoes, pesto sauce and served with a fresh side salad dressed with light vinaigrette. You would expect some sort of meat filling in this pastry but no, the flavors of tomatoes combined with pesto and eggs is just light yet satisfying.

I also enjoyed breaking some freshly baked ciabatta which went very well when I dip it into Chaplin's Shakshouka. A very popular dish in the Middle East and Europe, it's actually two eggs poached on a bed of tomato sauce, chili peppers and onions. I got to experience a little more heat that usual with the addition of jalapenos but was balanced out with some creamy and gooey mozzarella. You can also choose to have other toppings like meatballs (if you really want a more filling dish) or a combination of eggplant, feta and black olives. This is one of their

The cheesiness never ends when these Mozzarella Sticks came to our table. I love these! They arrived piping hot, perfectly fried, and not oily at all. I noticed that these were slightly toasted which provided an additional crunch to these gooey babies.

How about you try some of Chaplin's Grilled Marinated Chicken Thighs, perhaps? They actually looked a bit char to be honest, but the smoky savory intense flavor of the chicken balances very well especially when you have it with these mashed potatoes that isn't made from the box like other mashed potatoes you can find in most restaurants.

When I was asked by the Chef of Chaplin which dish I loved the most, I instantly said that the Eggplant Melanzane was my fave! Layers of eggplant, tomato sauce and cheese with some basil take the stage as each bite is bursting with a medley of fresh flavors! I highly recommend trying this if you opt to eat something light yet filling.
