You have seven days left to enjoy this Filipino Afternoon Tea at The Peninsula Manila
You have one week left to experience an all-Filipino Afternoon Tea like no other only at the iconic lobby at The Peninsula Manila.
Make it another #penmoment on your gallery, as Fiesta Filipino Merienda Buffet at The Lobby continues until June 30, 2017. This special buffet set-up at The Lobby is a way to celebrate our rich Filipino heritage and 119 years of independence in the country. Executive Sous Chef Ed Maddela curates a number of buffet spreads all throughout June and it was truly as Pinoy as it gets.
For only Php1,500++ for adults and Php850++ for kids, you can enjoy a spread of Filipino merienda favorites like Pancit Canton, Lumpiang Togue, Menudo Tarts, Dinuguan at Puto and more savory and sweet dishes for your dining pleasure.
Dishes change from time to time but during my visit, I got to savor this Pinasingaw na Isda na may Mayonesa, or steamed fish with peppers, onions, egg and mayonnaise.
I usually eat this Ensaladang Talong with a hefty serving of barbecue but it was considered as a standalone dish on the all-Filipino merienda spread at The Lobby.
Steamed meatloaf, Filipino style, is called Chicken Hardinera, and is stuffed with peppers, eggs, raising and chicken pieces.
Feast on bowls of Dinuguan in Puto or enjoy a famous breakfast staple, Champorado with Tuyo all afternoon at The Pen. The tuyo element was replaced by Danggit though, which is a very popular variety of dried fish available primarily in Cebu.
Not only that, different kinds of bread, pastries, cookies and native cakes are also featured in the daily merienda spreads.
One of the unique must-tries is the Kalabasa Leche Flan, which is a twist on the traditional way of making leche flan. Obviously the texture is not as smooth as the original, but made more interesting, and quite healthy too!
With mangoes available all year around in The Philippines, it's not impossible to see a dessert with some of this delectable sweet fruit. Crepes are also available, and here I have is one with some dulce de leche, fresh mangoes and a heavy dose of chocolate sauce for extra oomph!
Speaking of more oomph, some Harvested Davao Cocoa Hot Chocolate is also available, and it's as thick as it can be. I must admit I was looking for churros when I had this, hehehe!
And just when you thought it's all over, there's Sorbetes available too! I had a chance to enjoy Langka, Buco Salad and Pistachio ice cream and it was indeed THE WAY to end a good Filipino merienda.
