LaBoracay Foodtrip: Legit Piri-Piri Chicken And More At Spice Bird Boracay

For years, I avoided Boracay.

I wasn't that interested to go in this island. There weren't a lot of memories in this place, but you can simple call me a hater, but I don't find the peaceful scenery that I always long for when I go to the beach. There were too many establishments and I wasn't even sure if I was in an island. I was afraid of overcrowded spots that I prefer to go to another destination instead. But things changed when I experienced Laboracay for the first time this year.

It was a 4-day trip with my officemates and I loved every minute of it! There were good times and not-so-good times, but everything was an experience. I will write about that trip soon, but in the meantime, i'm going to write about Spice Bird first.

Spice Bird was already enjoying a very good reputation in Manila when I visited their cozy restaurant within D' Mall Boracay. I first heard about it from my trusted blogger friends who have tried this before (plus they held a pop-up dinner at EDSA BDG a few months back), and I must say that so far, the food at Spice Bird in Boracay is legit.

So why should you eat at Spice Bird in Boracay?

One - their menu isn't as extensive, but they focused more on their strengths instead. There are only a few items for their starters, piri-piri boards and sandwiches. For drinks, they serve craft beer, shakes, juice, sodas, beer and only two items for their dessert menu.

Two - the main cast of Spice Bird, however, are their grilled piri-piri specialties, sandwiches and their distinctive array of in-house sauces. You can choose from their tangy Salsa Verde, pungent Garlic & Lime, spicy Hot Bird and their original Piri-Piri sauces that you can use for their savory dishes.

Spice Bird's Calamansi and Rose Syrup Shake wasn't what I was expecting. It was refreshing and almost lemony sweet. The pink tinge from my drink make me feel all girly inside. I can't wait to try the rest of the dishes!

Since I had lunch with my friends, one of them ordered the Pulpo Salad that's made with pieces of local octopus piecestomatoes, onions, cucumbers, vinaigrette and spikes of Piri-Piri sauce.

Three - you should check out the starters! We all had a taste of Fried Chicken Skin dressed with Piri-Piri Sauce. I must admit that I immediately got intimidated with the huge portion of chicken skin in front of me since I am quite allergic to chicken, but I faced the facts and took a bite of it. It was crisped perfectly that the Piri-Piri sauce complemented it very well as it cuts through the richness of the fried chicken skin.

Another friend ordered the Piri-Piri Grilled Pork, complete with spice rice, salad, milky roll and veggie chips. You can choose from a belly or porkchop cut as well so it gives you another option to have this dish. I had a small piece of this but did not proceed into getting more because of my order, that is....

...say hi to the Piri-Piri Grilled Chicken! It's chicken marinated for 36 hours, grilled to perfection, served with spice rice, side salad, milk roll + veggie chips and served with some of the most wonderful sauces you can find anywhere in the island! Eating at Spice Bird instantly became one of my many highlights during my Boracay stay. Call me dramatic, but aside from the night parties, this may be the only reason on why I have to go back there. I just. I want to go back!

And before I go back to the scorching heat that I can feel in between the mirrored door outside Spice Bird, I didn't leave without trying the Double Happiness Sundae, made great with two scoops of Dark Chocolate Ice Cream, bergamot-infused olive oil, malagos chocolate shards and sea salt. The olive oil really gave it an interesting fragrant citrusy flair to the dessert. It's as if it was used like a chocolate shell or something! So yummy!!

Literally, my Spice Bird experience doubled my happiness. Too bad I don't have any space for more dishes but rest assured I will be back soon!
